The Society of Saint Vincent de Paul is dedicated to helping those less fortunate. We are looking for a talented individual who is capable of appraising the retail value of antique furniture, dishware and collectables at our Thrift Store.

Additional Training Provided:
Store orientation training Health and safety training will be provided if the position involves work at the store

Additional Opportunity Information:
The store at 585 York St receives a variety of antique and collectable items on a daily basis. The right individual for this position would have an interest in collectable items and experience in appraising antique furniture.

Volunteer Program: Clothing Sorter

The Society of Saint Vincent de Paul is dedicated to helping those less fortunate. We are looking for a talented individual who can sort donated clothing and set out for display to our customers at one of our Thrift Stores

Volunteer Program: Marketing and Advertising Specialist

The Society of Saint Vincent de Paul is dedicated to helping those less fortunate. We are looking for a talented individual who can use their skills in marketing and advertising to assist with sales of merchandise for the store and also promote the cause of the society.

Photograph and advertise specialty items or antiques via appropriate advertising outlets. Prepare marketing materials to promote sales and events.

Greeter

The Society of Saint Vincent de Paul is dedicated to helping those less fortunate. We are looking for a talented individual who can make the customers feel welcome and to increase sales by informing them of reduced prices on specific items.
The cleaning and conditioning of the store adds appeal and also helps the customer find what they are looking for faster.
The extra attention given at the cash desk will make the customer feel valued.

Greeter Responsibilities:
  • Greet customers with a hello or good morning, etc…
  • Inform the customer what is on sale for today, pointing to the sign at the front of the store
  • Direct the customer to specific merchandise when asked where to find items
  • Always thank each customer for coming in (regardless if they purchased) or not and invite them to return again.
  • Clean glass counter, pictures, doors and any glass furniture
  • Dust furniture
  • Straighten clothes on hangers: Do up buttons, zippers etc…
  • Condition racks : All merchandise facing the store front, size each section, colour block each section
  • When necessary help wrap and bag at the cash desk
  • Take hangers from the cash desk to the backroom, place according to signs on racks
  1. Please sign in volunteer binder
  2. Request padlock for locker if needed
  3. Get apron from backroom
  4. Get tote with cleaning supplies
  5. Read the sale items for today
  6. Acquaint yourself as to where the sale merchandise is
  7. Start greeting: Try to stay near the front of the store, but obviously there will be times when you will be further into the store

Fundraising Coordinator

The Society of Saint Vincent de Paul is a lay Catholic organization whose mission is:
To live the Gospel message by serving Christ in the poor with love, respect, justice and joy.
Our London Particular Council Board of Directors is currently looking for a volunteer Fundraising Coordinator. We are looking for someone professional who has fresh and creative fundraising ideas to raise funds to help the poor within our community.

The role will involve, but is not limited to, the following tasks:
  • Developing and leading a Committee of volunteers
  • Coordinating an action plan of fundraising initiatives
  • Organizing fundraising events/initiatives along with the Committee
  • Developing a Corporate fundraising appeal
This is a Board position with a 1 or 2 year commitment. If you are someone who enjoys reaching out to help those less fortunate and organizing fundraising initiatives, than this is a position that you will enjoy and find very rewarding as you will be making a difference in our community.

In Loving Memory of Barb Young
Barb became Store Manager of the London St. Vincent de Paul Thrift Stores in September, 2011. She was diagnosed with cancer and went on medical leave in early March, 2012.
